Price

IN LIGHT OF THE RECENT FLOODING AND DEVASTATION FROM HURRICANE HARVEY WE HAVE REDUCED THE PRICE OF OUR BEEF TO MAKE THINGS A LITTLE EASIER ON OUR FRIENDS AND CUSTOMERS. TO TAKE ADVANTAGE OF THE PRICE REDUCTION YOU NEED TO TAKE DELIVERY OF YOUR BEEF NO LATER THAN JANUARY 1, 2018.

Our grass-fed beef price for a whole beef until the end of the year is $3.95 per pound based on the hanging weight (See explanation of hanging weight in FAQ). Included in the price is the steer, slaughter fee and cut and processing (vacuum sealed) fees. All figures are approximate since we won’t know the exact weights until the time of processing.

Here is an example of what you might expect to pay. Assume 1,000 lbs. on the hoof for figuring purposes, however it may weight up to 1,100 lbs. or as little as 950lbs.

On average the hanging weight is approximately 50-60% of live weight. That means a 1,000 pound steer will hang at an approximate weight of 500 to 600 pounds. You will be charged on that weight.

550 lbs. x $3.95= $2,172.50  for the whole beef.

Once the meat is processed you can expect to receive approximately 70=75% of the hanging weight in packaged meat (approximately 400 pounds more or less). The packaged weight depending on a few key factors; the length of time the beef is left to hang (dry age), the degree to which you want the cuts trimmed, how lean you want your hamburger and your choice of cuts (bone-in or bone-out). Remember the more boneless cuts you have the lower the total packaged weight, but keep in mind that less bone does not mean less meat. You are packaging and storing less bone.  In this example the cost per pound for finished meat would be approximately per $5.43 per pound.

The cost for half a beef is slightly higher at $4.25 per pound, or $1,169 total. That equates to a price per pound for packaged meat of $5.84. Again keep in mind these are estimates of finished weight and each steer may finish out differently.

Please keep in mind that you are free to use any processor that you choose and if that is your decision the price per pound is $2.00 per pound (live weight). You are welcome to make your own arrangements for delivery of your beef to the processor of your choice or with in reason we would be glad to deliver your animal for you at an additional fee. The delivery fee will be $1.25 per mile based on the one way distance from Reavis Angus Farms to the processor you choose.

Special Notes:

Please keep in mind that the butcher lets the beef dry age in cold storage 7 days for free but depending on the volume of work they have it may be closer to 10 days (you may get extra dry age time for free) . If you wish to guarantee that your beef ages longer than 7 day Chubby's will be glad to do so for a charge $10 per day. Vacuum sealing is included in standard packaging for all cuts except hamburger which is packaged in sleeves unless you make prior arrangements to have it vacuum sealed or frozen into patties. Chubby's charges an additional $0.25 a pound (only on the hamburger portion) and $0.89 per pound for vacuum packed patties (1/4 or 1/2 pounds). Also note, we deliver your steer to the processor and you pick it up, unless other arrangements are made with us in advance. Any special aging or packaging arrangements on hamburger must be made with the processor prior to delivery of the animal. Charges for add-ons will be included in the final bill prior to pickup.
